Most owners know they should delegate, but the hardest part is deciding where to start. Handing off everything at once usually creates confusion. Handing off the right first task builds trust and frees time quickly.
Start with tasks that are repeatable
Look for work you do the same way every week: updating a spreadsheet, scheduling appointments, sorting email, entering invoices. Repeatable tasks are easy to describe, which makes them easy to delegate.
Prefer low-risk, high-annoyance work
The best first tasks are ones that drain your energy but carry little risk if something goes slightly wrong. Calendar coordination and data cleanup are good examples. Save sensitive decisions and client-facing judgment calls for later.
Write down the steps once
Record a short screen video or write a five-line checklist describing how you want the task done. This one document will save hours of back-and-forth and becomes the basis for a standard operating procedure.
Review early, then relax
Plan to review the first few results closely. Give specific feedback, update the checklist, and gradually reduce your involvement as quality becomes consistent.
